Treatment
Occupational Therapy intervention is planned in conjunction with the child's family, and when appropriate, with the child too. We know that quality therapy is not a 'one size fits all' process and therefore we will work with you (and other key stakeholders such as teachers and daycare staff) to ensure the therapy provided fits best with not only your child's needs but also your family's needs. We are trained in a large variety of therapeutic modalities and will gladly explain the research and rationale behind chosen therapies. We believe in working in collaboration because whilst we have knowledge of child development, families are the one's who know their child best.
Some examples of ways our therapist works with children:
- Coaching families via the DIR/Floortime method on how to engage their child in play to build social reciprocity
- Helping children improve their handwriting via the Co-Op approach.
- Using visual schedules to help a child learn toileting independence
- Playing and interacting with food to increase a child's tolerance to a range of textures to assist with improving dietary intake (SOS and Steps Models of Intervention)
- Helping children to recognize their body signals to assist with emotional regulation via the Interoception Curriculum and the Zones of Regulation.
